Back in August I went to Japan for three weeks to see my boyfriend.  He had a week off for Obon and I didn't have school, so it seemed like a good time to hop on a plane and get over there.  He paid for the two of us to go to the Niigata countryside (my hometown) and enjoy the sights.

This picture looks pleasant, but we're really about to dye from heat stroke and the ice cream melted in .2 seconds in the Japanese sun.  I forgot how horrible the Niigata summer is.

Oh god.  This must be what heaven looks like.

This is what you imagine Japan to look like, and this IS what it looks like.

Japan isn't complete without assortments of delicious cakes and cuisine...

This cake was good, but in Chinese money it was the equivalent of a meal for four people.  Yeowza.

Omurice... you're so sexy in that red.

I miss this food sometimes... yes yes I do...

Spent time with old college classmates I haven't seen in a loooooooooooooooooong tiiiiiiiime...

My two weeks in Japan was a nice change of environment, but traveling in Japan when your salary is not yen is pretty painful.  Although relaxing in my boyfriend's Saitama home was peaceful and relaxing (everyday was filled with his home cooking, or sometimes my curry, niku-jyaga and shit-tastic Chinese food), I still missed having purpose in life.  I need work.  School.  Something.

Anyway, going back to Niigata was the most heart wrenching part of the trip.  It feels like yesterday I was in that little village, and it's hard for me to believe that part of my life is "over."  I saw old 'family' in Nou and it felt like time barely passed between us.  We had dinner, talked about the new happenings in town and on my side of the world over coffee and cake, and left with a 'gochisousama' and a bow farewell.  I didn't see too many old students (don't know if that's good or bad), but either way I got teary eyed when I went just about anywhere.  My heart is in that little place called Nou.  Truly.
